Books on your TBR you didnt get to , General Book & Reading Discussion

10.08.2017 15:18

Do you have books on your TBR pile that you have put off reading for some reason? Perhaps they are too long and intimidating, or maybe you are just not in the mood reading them? Also, how long have they been on your TBR shelf? I have several such books on my never-ending list, some have been on my TBR shelf for around a year.

I have three different to-read lists, so some have been there for quite awhile.

#1: Books I have to read. These are the ones I am super interested in, or are installments in one of my (many) favorite series. Occasionally a book from this list will wind up downgraded to the second (mainly when I have to out off reading it for some time).

#2: Books that I want to read, but arent a priority. Books that are part of my non-favorite series and whatnot.

#3: Books that interest me and catch my notice, but that I can put off.

So...yeah. My list is depressing
And my bookshelves list is not the whole of it

I have bookmarks all over the place in books that I have put off reading. Some of them have gone with no progress for years. I just have so many interests that I keep getting distracted, especially by the ebooks lately.
Do I contradict myself? Very well, then, I contradict myself; I am large -- I contain multitudes.

You list isnt the whole of it?? So where do you list the rest?

I have similar such lists.

There are always new books that keep distracting me.

Various scraps of paper, my brain, and for any author I want to keep watch on, a binder with lists of the various authors books

I also tend to download the cover image to act as a reminder sometimes, if I dont have any other way to make a quick note

Ive had [i]Gone With The Wind[i] on my reading list for a couple of years now, and I suppose that I am a little intimidated by the length of it. The fact that I just cant stop acquiring books is also part of the problem, as I tend to get distracted by the newest additions to my library!

Oh my God so so many on my TBR list (its pages long) and then there are the shelves of books I want to read and have got as far as purchasing them but havent got to read them .... yet! Sitting on my shelf are:

Gone With The Wind
Les Misérables
The Brothers Karamazov
The works of Marcel Proust
Finnegans Wake

Exactly! In addition, I track my books via a spread sheet which I lightly pencil and rework as needed. My tracking sheet is the butt of many family jokes.

Kind of off topic ( ), but...I keep a notebook where I record the books I am reading/have read...its not as detailed as it could be (but Ive also been thinking about starting a new notebook that is much more detailed
Really geeky ( ), and super un, but

Now...

Ive used notebooks as well as journal ledgers. I like handwritten tracking sheets over computer generated.

I loved Gone With The Wind and read it a couple of time. I highly recommend it.

I also keep some on my not interested shelf
A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them.

My TBR list is so big it isnt even funny. The first one I have to add is ASOIAF, for sure. Ive been wanting to get into the series for months and months now, but I wont lie, the page count is a little intimidating. I guess the next one after that would have to be IT by King. Another one Ive wanted to read and get into but have always put it off for smaller books. And finally... Infinite Jest. I started reading this last summer but got off of the reading schedule and missed out
Books are my friends, my companions. They make me laugh and cry and find meaning in life.
